End of Summer Reflections

Jennifer CervelliComment

Happy September! This summer has been a whirlwind of adventure for me, this summer was dedicated to growth and inspiration. I took a mini vacay back to the South visiting Saint Simon’s Island in south Georgia and then Mt Dora in Florida before taking a two week road trip up to the Pacific Northwest for the Seattle Gift Show to showcase JCJ’s Fall Collection. This was all before the hurricanes Harvey and Irma hit the southern coasts! Luckily my family located there stayed safe, and I am thankful for that!

The Pacific Northwest is simply breath taking and the Seattle Gift show was an awesome experience, we were lucky enough to catch the eclipse where up there too! After the show, I spent a day up in Vancouver as well photographing jewelry in Lynn Canyon. Such a beautiful city and area as well!

I am so thankful for the weeks of adventure driving up and down the West Coast, and I am holding on to all the gorgeous inspiration I gathered along the way while I settle back into the busy studio days back here in Los Angeles. I am looking forward to the next few holiday months and seeing what new growth and experience will be had here in the JCJ beach studio!

In love & light,

Jenny

JCJ Day in the Life - Miss Holli aka Miss Jazzy Belle aka Holliwood

Jennifer CervelliComment

I met Holli while we were both attending the Savannah College of Art & Design in beautiful Savannah, GA. We had many of the same friends and would see each other at parties and art events. We didn't get close however until after college, when I would visit Austin, TX where Holli now lives. We quickly became close soul sisters almost overnight, and she has visited me here in Los Angeles too. Our conversations always pick up wherever we left them each time we see each other or talk on the phone. She is the epitome of beauty, and her soul reflects such an inspirational and loving light on her and all those lucky enough to be around her. I am so grateful for this babe- thank you, Holli for being my soul sister and constant source of love, inspiration, and joy. Thanks so much for taking the time for JCJ!!

<3 love and light

Here is her interview!

When is your birthday, and what is your sign?

October 26th, Scorpio, Aries Moon.

How old are you?
31

Where do you live? What is one of your favorite things about where you live?

Austin, Texas.
Austin reminds me of everything I loved growing up, my roots in Northern California and my college days in Savannah, Georgia. It’s the perfect blend, west coast vibe meets southern charm, pace, and friendly hospitality. A small town feel, yet thriving creative opportunistic city; with rivers, lakes, trails, plenty of outdoor adventures to be had.

What is your favorite color and why?
Bare with me. I went to Savannah College of Art and Design for Interior Design. Colors truly have a sentimental meaning to me, even more so than any color theory can ever depict. I will say I have always leaned towards vibrant and saturated jewel tones over pastels.

Turquoise might have been my first love in elementary school,  Being Native American Indian and my great grandmother collecting pieces during her lifetime, I was fascinated and began my own collection, including a ring she regularly wore.

When I was in high school, deep sultry purples and lavenders were my muse, I painted two tone striped walls in my bedroom, inspired from matching sheets, painted my silhouette of me contemplating life with a paintbrush… I was moody and wanted to lay on my canopy bed, write in my diary, listen to Jewel and cry about my love life. Who will save your soul? haha

College was full of black staples to always look professional and classic, okay maybe I was a bit of a punk too, but my room was my greek island oasis… white, cobalt blue, and hints of orange. If I were really needing rejuvenation, it was laying in the park or nearby square in Savannah, staring up at the ‘sage green’ spanish moss hanging from the trees.

Right now in my early 30s, my favorite colors tend to follow the trends, I’m crazy for deep green tones, my bedroom headboard wall is dark and moody like an army fort. And my kitchen accent wall is chalkboard green. I really crave the masculine warmth thru the fall and winter months… but know in the spring if you paint everything else bright clean crisp white, it’s still a stunning backdrop.

How would you describe your style?

I would say Bohemian throw-on-and-go. I rock plain-jane bone-straight hair and bangs that I air dry to sleepy waves. I rarely wear makeup and if so, mascara and done. Throw on vintage pieces, band shirts, leggings, sweaters, tore up jeans and a tee, hooked on solids, and that most unique print…. cons, vans, sandals. Sounds legit right?

I’ll be honest, I also deemed my boyfriend my stylist, because he is always up with the newest fashion trends and has that quick eye. I’ve ask him to style me up with what I’ve had mixed with his oversized shirts rolled up, so I haven’t bought myself stuff much these past few years.

I realized just last week, I don’t feel deserving of it, I’m not working hard enough to be the artist I am, so I kind of starve myself from rewards. I don’t need anything, but realize I’m quite unhappy with the same ol’ stuff I’ve collected for decades. I’m the girl that grabs a million things to try on, likes them all, but doesn’t looooove them, so I walk away from absolutely everything and feel proud for not spending a dime, but empty for not purchasing the pieces my wardrobe desperately needs to work. So I’ve reached an exciting crossroad of change, where weeding out the closet and lightening the load is the most important thing to feel fresh, new, and living in the now, not the past (pieces of old sentiment: not meaning vintage). Getting rid piles of clothes that just overwhelm me, and leave me saying the typical annoying “I have nothing to wear” statement on the daily. My biggest, most rewarding project for myself right now, is creating an affordable, minimalist wardrobe that is versatile and easy to manage.

What inspires you?

EVERYTHING IN LIFE, ABOUT LIFE. Emotions. Exercise. Fresh Air. Love. Architecture. Artwork. Thinking. Meditation. Yoga. The Ocean. Alan Watts. Kute Blackson. Ted Talks. Podcasts. Music. Set Design. Wrinkles in faces. People being real and authentic. New Point of View. Being Unapologetic. Observing how people interact and live.

Vodka or Whiskey?

Whisky always because of its grain and fermentation flavors, and specifically a love for Bourbon. So many incredible cocktails can be made from whisky. Vodka though, is a neutral grain spirit, so its flavors have been removed in distillation… if I want a light grain, gin is truly stunning, and can be presented in a range of palettes. My new found love is Mezcal. I was fortunate enough to travel to Oaxaca, Mexico this past April with my boyfriend Brice and his bar family, we were amazed by the ability to sip it all day long and not feel drunk, lose your inhibitions, or have a hangover. The secret is in the primitive distillation.

*Brice works for a phenomenal cocktail bar here in Austin, whenever you visit please come enjoy The Roosevelt Room… It’s taken my drinking appreciation to a whole nother level. Their huge menu is designed around cocktail Era’s, when drinks were introduced into society, making everyone feel like true liquor connoisseurs for the night.

Who do you look up to and why?

Idolizing people can be detrimental to loving ourselves and others, flairs up the ego. So I say everyone, we are all here to teach and learn from one another.

So for example I look up to you…. my dear friend Jen and your passion to create JCJ jewelry, why? because you just do it, don’t hold back! Those who create and act on life and don’t get stuck, you are all my heros, because I overthink and hold back I admire that to the fullest. I’m working thru it.

I had quite a few mentors growing up. I love the woman who has a knack for making everyone feel noticed and admired. I love the soft spoken man who is straight and to the point, but his heart is full of gold. Who can talk about the universe all night and make you see outside yourself. People who dish out tough love, don’t steer from the truth, strive to be better, though never too annoyed to stop and help others along the way.

Everyone can teach you a lesson, it’s about seeing the good in each other.

What would you pick as your spirit animal?

My own beautiful black lab, weimaraner dog, Miss Jazzybelle. Her Name: I handed over my college alias…. which was taken from the old skool song created by Outkast (Big Boi and Andre 3000) on their “Atliens” album. This girl is just like me, just in dog form… gets wild quickly, is goofy as all hell, love to get down and have a good time, be off leash and run free on the trails, wants to meet everyone, afraid to jump in the water, but wade her way in and never wants to leave… can sleep and cuddle for hours on end… extremely intelligent, wants to be included in all conversations.

What is one thing you can’t live without?

Breaking the rules… here’s a few.

Taking photos… they are my memory bank.
Talking… I should seriously take a silence vow for even a week.
my hands to create with…. I should use them more!

Who is your favorite musician or band?
Are you kidding, anything and everything new and old, sometimes older the better. Music is home. It’s so nostalgic, gives me dejavu, makes me cry, makes me work out harder… gets me motivated in the morning, is always playing in my house, car, shower. All of it, except when you’re just not in the mood for whatever that is you just played.

Check out new quirky Austin band making their way up…. Batty Jr.
I’m crazy about them.

What is your favorite song?
everything with the SAX. That sax sounds gets me going, 80s baby.

If you could broadcast 1 message across the world, what would it be?

Be willing to look and learn outside your perception, our differences are just an illusion of separatism created by the ego, awakening the spirit unites us.

A little known fact about you?

I have skin discoloration all over my body, some sort of fungus/virus that takes years to get rid of…. ugh!

How do you know me? What is our connection?

YAYYYY first and foremost we are soul sisters! We went to Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD) together.

What is your favorite JCJ design and why? (doesn’t have to be one you own!)

All the bullet pieces. I have the blue crystal one that is stunning. But really love the turquoise and white howlite bullet necklaces. Always adore the hammered hoops and Texas/California state pieces.

What would you like to see JCJ design in the future that you don’t already see with our brand?

Personally I love light-weight brass earrings… linear, minimal pieces, dainty chain chokers, or even leather choker straps with choices of tiny pendants. Or here goes my artist brain…. collaboration with another jeweller you love. A lil exclusive limited edition item!

Birthstone Monthly Spotlight: October + Opal and Tourmaline

Jennifer CervelliComment

October has two birthstones – opal and tourmaline. Both come in a variety of colors.

Tourmaline is known for displaying several colors in the same gemstone. These bi-color or tri-color gems are formed in many combinations; gemstones with clear color distinctions are highly prized. One very popular multi-color variety is known as watermelon tourmaline, and features green, pink, and white color bands; to resemble its namesake, the gemstone is cut into thin slices having a pink center, white ring, and green edge. Tourmaline is found in many localities including Brazil, Afghanistan, East Africa, and the USA.

Opals name derives from the Greek Opallos, meaning "to see a change (of color)." Opals range in color from milky white to black with flashes of yellow, orange, green, red, and blue. An opal's beauty is the product of contrast between its color play and its background.

The Opal was a symbol of and hope to the ancient Romans. The people of the Orient christened the Opal, ‘Anchor of Hope’. Others believed the Opal fell from the heavens when lightning struck the Earth. According to legend, the Opal was believed to make its wearer invisible and was a popular talisman of spies and thieves. The stone has a unique property in changing color, believed to indicate the health and mental state of the wearer.  The October birthstone is associated with purity, innocence, hope and faith.

Tourmalines are a relatively recent discovery and assignment. This gemstone is known as the ‘Peace Stone’, believing to dispel anger, fear, jealousy and aggressiveness to keep the wearer calm and tranquil. Besides peace and progress, the stone is believed to enhance creativity of its wearer.

Both stones exhibit a vibrant spectrum of colors, lending charm and beauty to any jewelry they are fashioned in. These dual colored gems are prized across the world and are in high demand for their unique hue combinations and crystal structures.

Falling into Autumn: Shorter Days and Cooler Nights + Reflection of 2016

Jennifer CervelliComment

As the first few days of fall are upon us, I find myself reflecting on the past year as I look forward to the next few holiday months. This time of year I find myself writing more and able to dedicate more late nights in the studio with less distraction.

2016 was a huge year for me –a very busy, but very special year. I was the Maid of Honor for my youngest sister, helped plan the wedding, designed all the bridal jewelry, as well as styled all the bridesmaids from head to toe. Designing jewelry that was a part of her big day was one of the most meaningful projects I have ever put upon myself. Knowing hammer mark and each bend of metal was creating pieces that my sister and her bridesmaids would cherish that day and for days to come is a feeling I cannot put into words. I am filled with so much gratitude.

I have felt a lot of creative inspiration since the wonderful wedding love week in Colorado, and I have been enjoying creating new designs to showcase over the next couple months, so be sure to follow our Instagram for all sneak peaks and first looks!

I am so excited to launch the 2nd annual JCJ Exclusive Holiday Design – keep a look out on November 1st for this special design that will only be available this holiday season!

I will be attending a few local Los Angeles events this holiday season, be sure to join our mailing list to be the first to know! Thank you for following along the JCJ Adventures, your support is so appreciated.

In love & Light,

Jenny

JCJ Day in the life - LT and the Mile High City

Jennifer CervelliComment

Our most recent installment of the JCJ Instagram Day in the Life Takeover features Lynne aka LT from Denver, CO. Lynne and I met through my younger sister, as they are very close friends in Colorado. Ever since I met Lynne, we have had a rare connection on sharing that undying spark of needing to follow our creative dreams and ideas no matter what – I love to pick her brain for fresh, new perspectives on JCJ ideas. She is a JCJ Admin on our FB page, as well as an all around kick-ass babe bestie. I think we first fell in friendship love over music, most specifically our dear Paul Simon. Recently, we shared the honor of standing next to each other at my sister’s wedding. She was my 1st in command for the best group of bridesmaids for my sister- I feel so lucky and blessed to have been able to get to know her so much more and share such an incredible year of helping my sister plan and execute her wedding. Lynne always shows up with a smile, a plan, and she is just an all around babe who is one of the strongest women I am so grateful to have in my life. Thank you so much, Lynne for your awesome Day in the Life! Read below for a closer look into the sweet heart of LT with our mini interview:

When is your birthday, and what is your sign?
July 18 – Cancer!

Custom made Apple necklace for Lynne's mom- they share a special quote "the apple doesn't fall far from the tree" which inspires this custom necklace. What babes!

How old are you?

29 – which is still DEFINITELY not 30.

(note from JC- hold on to this 29 with all you got! there is no turning back once 30 hits - trust me.)

Where do you live? What is one of your favorite things about where you live?
Denver, Colorado

LT looking absolutely radiant rocking her JCJ Heart Studs and Wild Child Arrowhead Talisman Necklace - who could resist that smile??

What is your favorite color and why?

I’m more of a combo girl – I love color combinations. Some of my favorites (at the moment) are: seafoam and coral, black and white, and blue and orange! (Go Broncos!)

How would you describe your style?

My style is simple with a flair. I love to rock my jeans, t-shirts and Chucks, but throw on a statement ring, sparkly earrings or throw on a funky scarf. I love my basics but funk it up with accessories.

What inspires you?

Gosh, what doesn’t inspire me. I can find inspiration in catching a mom laughing with her toddler in the back seat on the way to work, listening to a song I’ve heard a thousand times but catching a line differently…

Often times, I find my inspiration comes in the form of moments of clarity amongst the chaos.

Snowboarding or Skiing?

I’m a boarder babe for suuuuure.

Who do you look up to and why?

I find that this question gets harder the older I get! I would have to say that I look up to my parents – as standard as that is! As a child, I always loved and looked up to my parents because they were loving, playful and supportive. As I grow older, I look up to them in different way. I admire they was they raised my brother and I, how they support both of us, the way they interact with their community, and the way they support each other.

What would you pick as your spirit animal?

Okay, so, as much as I am petrified by sharks… I think they are my spirit animal. When sharks stop swimming, they sink. I’m very much the same way. I can go a million miles an hour, but as soon as I’m in one place with nothing to do…. I sink straight to the bottom, as in, I fall asleep!

What is one thing you can’t live without?

I’m going to take this as a literal ‘thing’, because there are too many people and *cough* songs *cough* I can’t live without.

I don’t think I could live without my stuffed bunny, Stumper. I’ve had him since I was about 2, and he’s just my bunny. Plain and simple. Yes, I still sleep with him every night. Yes, I just broadcast that fairly publicly. #noshamegame

Who is your favorite musician or band?

Hands down, no contest – Paul Simon. Jen and I have bonded over this many a time.

Diamonds on the souls of her shoes.

What is your favorite song?
Oh my goodness! At this moment, I’m going to go with Bridge Over Troubled Water. It can vary a bit, but this has been on top for a while now.

If you could broadcast 1 message across the world, what would it be?

Be kind, show grace, and be patient. Again, the older I get, the more I learn that everyone has fought more battles and gone through more than we are every led to believe. Showing everyone kindness and tenderness can work wonders.

Mind you – it can also get your shit stolen too. But starting out nice is better!

Heart necklace and earrings - a special gift set made by JCJ for the Lynne and the lovely bridesmaids for my sister's wedding. Swooooon- still can't resist that smile :)

A little known fact about you?
I can clap with one hand. Ask me when you see me ;)

How do you know me? What is our connection?

Jen Pen is Caroline’s (Bambi’s!!) sister! I’ve been lucky to get to know and LOVE her more over the last few years and MOST recently, got to stand by her at Caroline and Nico’s wedding. Still, hands down, one of the best days ever.

What is your favorite JCJ design and why? (doesn’t have to be one you own!)

I think it might be my XO ring. It was my first JCJ piece, and it’s just darling. I wear it nearly every day. I also really love the Beyoncé song ‘XO’, so I sing that often when I look at my ring too.

I love you like XO!

What would you like to see JCJ design in the future that you don’t already see with our brand?

Ah! Toughie! I would sayyyyyy…. Chunky pendants! I love an awesome pendant I can switch on and off chains depending on length, layering etc. It would be so fun to rock a big, bold JCJ pendant. Just sayin’ J Love you Jen!!!!

(note from JC- LOVE this idea!!!)

A little known fact about you?

I am afraid of heights. You’d think that is not a big deal, but I am also a rock climber. I literally cannot let go/jump/fall from the top of bouldering walls. It’s embarrassing.

Greek style upper arm bands! I’ve been pushing Jen to make these for a while, maybe now she finally will that I’ve said it in writing J

Birthstone Monthly Spotlight: June + Pearl + Alexandrite + Moonstone

Jennifer CervelliComment

June birthdays claim more three birthstones: Pearls, Moonstone, and Alexandrite.

Alexandrite is a magical, color-changing gem. Outside in daylight, it is a cool bluish mossy green. Inside in lamplight, it is a red gem with a warm raspberry tone. You can watch it flick back and forth by switching from fluorescent to incandescent light. The value of the gemstone increases as the color change becomes more distinct. It’s said to strengthen intuition, aid in creativity and inspire the imagination. Originally discovered in Russia’s Ural Mountains in the 1830s, it’s now found in Sri Lanka, East Africa, and Brazil, but this gem is exceptionally rare and valuable.

For centuries, pearls have been used as an adornment, and were one of the favorite gem materials of the Roman Empire. Later in Tudor England, the 1500s were known as the pearl age. Pearls are unique as they are the only gems from living sea creatures and require no faceting or polishing to reveal their natural beauty. In the early 1900s, the first successful commercial culturing of round saltwater pearls began. Since the 1920s, cultured pearls have almost completely replaced natural pearls in the market.

Alexandrite is the most recently discovered among the three birthstones, while Pearl and Moonstone have been in use for centuries.

Moonstone, the third June birthstone signifies longevity and good health and is a talisman for safe travel. The shimmering Moonstone occurs naturally in shades of peach, blue, green and champagne. Moonstone serves to balance the digestive system and purges the body of toxins. This stone is excellent to balance the hormonal functions and is beneficial for women during pregnancy and childbirth.

Moonstone consists of albite and orthoclase, two types of naturally occurring feldspar. These two types stack up naturally in alternating layers during the formation moonstone. When light falls between these slim layers, they scatter into a multitude of directions; giving rise to a beautiful play of light reflections appearing to float on the surface, a phenomenon unique to this June birthstone.

June is a beautiful month - the beginning of summer (my personal favorite time of year!), and I do have many close friends and family members with June birthdays, so the pearl has been a long time favorite gemstone for me to work with as well as adorn myself. We love custom work at JCJ, so email us with any questions or inquiries info@jennifercervelli.com anytime!  (JCJ's own, Caroline - model and designer - is a June babe!)

"Take Flight with JCJ" Day in the Life Takeover - Wendra

Looking radiant in her Copper Domed Earrings and InfinityLove Necklace

Here is our 3rd JCJ Day in the Life Takeover, and this is a very unique perspective because my lovely friend, Wendra, took us on her daily adventures as an American Airlines flight attendant, in this special edition named “Take Flight with JCJ!” where she flew from LAX to Honolulu, Hawaii to New York City, and back to Los Angeles!

Wendra and I met through Craigslist (a roommate ad gone RIGHT!) and we became fast friends both sharing a love for our dogs (shout-out to Mario and Dasher), yoga, and healthy living while staying close to the ocean in our bright, sunny apartment in El Segundo (I did leave my wallet there). Wendra has taught me the wonderful benefits of an organic and raw diet with the occasional glass of wine or champagne, of course. She has a heart bigger than most, and she shines nothing but positive, supportive love to her close friends and family- and I am so thankful for her! She has been mistaken for Julianne Moore (red hair, don’t care), and she’s flown many celebrities on her LA-NY trips, including John Stamos and Keith Richards! Check out her beautiful photos and mini interview below!

Birthstone Monthly Spotlight: April + Diamond

Jennifer CervelliComment

Birthstone Monthly Spotlight: April + Diamond

Diamonds are one of the hardest substances on earth, and this hugely loved, traditional gem is the birthstone for April. It is a fitting gem to symbolize the start of something new just like springtime. The word diamond is derived from the Greek word “adamas” meaning “invincible”, which is an appropriate way to describe those born in the month of April.

The diamond is meant to provide the wearer with balance, clarity, abundance, and inner strength. It is also a classic symbol of eternal love, often used in engagement and wedding rings.

Diamonds come in a wide range of colors from black, green, blue, pink, red, purpled, yellow, and orange. The color is dependent on the type of impurities that are present in the stone. Many raw diamonds are found in the more colorful version then the well know clear crystal color.

Some ancient beliefs of the origin of diamonds include that they were formed from lightning bolts – some even believed they were the tears of God.

JCJ Day in the Life Takeover - Robbie takes Chi-Town

Jennifer CervelliComment

This it the exciting SECOND official installment of "JCJ Take Over, Day in the Life!" and my dear friend Robbie took over Chicago for the day sportin’ his JCJ jewelry and documented it on the JCJ Instagram take over!

Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/jennifercervellijewelry/

I sent him a mini interview (read below!)- Here is the recap with pictures from his JCJ day in the life in the gorgeous city of Chicago, where spring certainly is in the air! Thanks again, Robbie for sharing your rad style and creative energy while rockin’ in your Jennifer Cervelli Jewelry!

A little background on this stud and my friendship of over 12 years and counting as well as many cities and counting!

Robbie and I met in college in Savannah, Georgia circa 2004ish while we were both working for Paris Hilton! Well we were both employees at the Hilton Hotel in downtown Savannah, sadly no sight of Paris during our time there. We were fast friends – Robbie’s sense of humor would make my cheeks hurt from laughing so hard. We shared a love for the arts (being in art school, duh), and music connected us as we would blast the tunes and sing out hearts out whenever the occasion called. His friendship became one of my closest throughout college and continuing throughout life.

Romeo? James Franco? Robbie? Absolutely love this photo.

Romeo? James Franco? Robbie? Absolutely love this photo.

Fast forward to after college, Robbie adventured out to the Bay Area to live with our friend Shal (last JCJ takeover!) and I in Alameda where every night he would come up with incredible, unique meals and drink specials that I looked forward to nightly after work. His creative spirit and thirst for the new has always inspired me.

Robbie is back in his main stopping ground of Chicago – an incredible city I have yet to explore with him, but I am overdue for a visit! Robbie has always been one of the biggest supporters of JCJ (since the college years!!) and he has greatly influenced the inspiration and growth of JCJ Mens: The Phoenix Collection. Robbie, thank you for your amazing JCJ Takeover, for your time, and for your incredible creative energy!

When is your birthday, and what is your sign?

April 14 and I am an Aries

How old are you?

grasping onto 31

Where do you live? What is one of your favorite things about where you live?

I live in the great city of Chicago. Chicago is just a great cultural melting pot. Every neighborhood has something to do, to see and eat. I love having the city and the beach at my fingertips. Always something to do, even in the dead of Winter.

What is your favorite color and why?

Purple. It is my compromise between red and blue. I love the firey burn of red and the revitalization of the deep blue. Plus I have a huge passion for Alzheimer’s Awareness.

How would you describe your style?
Plaids, Demins, Suede… I have been told this is preppy, hipster and lumbersexual. My style is relaxed and casual. If I’m not wearing those three items, I have been seen sporting activewear as I run the city.

What inspires you?

I live to learn. I love the challenge of, “oh no, you can’t do that”. Anything is possible. Work hard and push through. Anything is possible. Its an amazing feeling when you accomplish something new.

Who do you look up to and why?

Besides the obvious, my parents, I go with Honey Brown. She is the lady half of my roommate that comes to life like the moon. She is just really passionate about what she does. She knows how to connect with her audience through music and performance. Its just really inspiring to see how brave she is to step out in those heels and put a smile on so many people’s faces. Be who you are and love that person.

What would you pick as your spirit animal?

Dog. I must have been one in a past life. I love the wild spirits and  their les cei faire personalities and the unconditional love. But let’s not forget, they also have a 6th sense for assholes.

What is one thing you can’t live without?

I would have to go with music. It just communicates to me in every way. From the alarm clock in the morning to the city walks to the long runs and wild nights of dancing. It also changes seasonally which just makes me weird (in a good way). Gets me through life’s ups and downs, my biggest motivation tool.

Who is your favorite musician or band?

I grew up a big No Doubt fan, but since Gwen and the boys are having commitment issues, I will go with Garbage. The lyrics have a message and music wakes me. I can chill at home, I can dance in the kitchen, I can charge to a finish line. I listen to their entire catalog on repeat and never get sick of it. I just connects with my inner weird. Plus Shirlz told Kanye to STFU.

Whiskey or vodka?

Whiskey, duh. What kind of lumbersexual would I be without Whisky?

What is your favorite song?

Now I will give no doubt their shout out. I love Sunday Morning. No Doubt has this energy that brings me out of my Winter hibernation. Every March/April, the temperatures warm up and it just gives you chills. A sign of new beginnings.

A little known fact about you?

i am left handed? Which apparently means I have a shorter life expectancy than the other.

How do you know me? What is our connection?

MacDaddy! We both once worked for Paris Hilton. We have been through many adventures together since. I miss those adventures, we need a new one :)

What is your favorite JCJ design and why? (doesn’t have to be one you own!)

I have been around since the beginning and eagerly awaited the masculine designs. Once I saw the Mako Chain, I put my name on it. I also really enjoy the shark cuff links. I think the materials you use really speak of natural miracles. As a kid, I grew up collecting rocks and gems, and was amazed at what nature could do. Everything you create puts a sparkle in my eye.

What’s your guilty pleasure song to sing at the top of your lungs, windows down, wind in your hair kind of singing.

As Spring came super early to Chicago this year, I have noticed that I have been wildin’ out to a few songs. I think my current guilty pleasure song is Grimes Kill Vs Maim. Over the winter, I was training for a run and was acting crazy on the treadmill (in public) with hand guns and getting low. Don’t try this at home, please.

Birthstone Monthly Spotlight: March + Aquamarine

Jennifer CervelliComment

Birthstone Monthly Spotlight: March + Aquamarine

Aquamarine

The March birthstone is the serene, tranquil Aquamarine, the color of the deep sea which is believed to keep one calm and peaceful. Aquamarine has a pale, deep green blue color, and it is associated with loyalty, courage, and friendship.

This stone of the ocean was considered sacred to Neptune, Roman God of the Sea. The association with the sea has made this stone a sacred gem for sailors, promising a prosperous and safe voyage for all those at sea. The stone was also believed to provide sailors protection against the perils and monsters of the sea. The Greeks wore amulets made of aquamarine engraved with Poseidon, the God of the Sea, on a chariot.

The word Aquamarine is made up of two Latin words:  ‘aqua’ or water and ‘marina’, the sea.

Aquamarines vary in color from deep blue to bluish-green, with differing intensities due to the varying quantities of iron in the beryl crystal. Naturally occurring deep blue aquamarine stones are rare, expensive and in high demand.

This gemstone is mined in Nigeria, Zambia, Pakistan, Brazil, Mozambique and Madagascar, with Brazil being the largest source.

The aquamarine is believed to have healing powers, effective in curing ailments of the liver, jaws, stomach and throat.

Bloodstone

The second birthstone for March is the bloodstone. Bloodstone – also known as heliotrope is a form of quartz. This quartz variety is also called chalcedony. Green chalcedony spotted with flecks of red is known as bloodstone. Bloodstone is found embedded in rocks, or as pebbles in riverbeds. The best sources of this stone are India, Brazil, and Australia.

Babylonians used this stone to make seals and amulets, and it was also a favorite with Roman gladiators. In the Middle Ages, bloodstone was believed to hold healing powers, particularly for stopping nosebleeds. Powdered and mixed with honey and white of egg, it was believed to cure tumors and stop all types of hemorrhage. Ancient alchemists used it to treat blood disorders, including blood poisoning and the flow of blood from a wound. Bloodstone was also believed to draw out the venom of snakes.

Shaleni takes over JCJ for a day in the life!

Jennifer CervelliComment

This it the very first OFFICIAL installment of "JCJ Take Over, Day in the Life!" and I couldn't be happier to have one of my best friend/soul sisters take on the job as the first! I sent her a mini interview (read below!) and simple instructions to wear her JCJ jewelry for a day in her life and document it for JCJ Instagram take over! Here is an awesome recap with pictures from her JCJ day home in Colorado! Thanks again, Shal for rockin' your jewels and for your amazing creative fresh look on Jennifer Cervelli Jewelry!

Rocking her lucky wishbone necklace! (wouldn't you kill for those cheekbones, lashes, and stunning eyes!?! yea, welcome to my world!)

Rocking her lucky wishbone necklace! (wouldn't you kill for those cheekbones, lashes, and stunning eyes!?! yea, welcome to my world!)

A little background for you lovely readers on a pretty rad best friendship of over 13 years:

Shaleni and I met in college in Savannah, GA at the Savannah College of Art & Design in 2003 during my freshman year and her sophomore year attending SCAD. It was instant best friends at first sight, like for real. We quickly starting spending hours listening to our favorite songs on repeat while talking about music, love, and life. We would spend afternoons sketching and chatting on my apartment balcony watching the southern thunderstorms, or late nights watching movies in her apartment people watching from the high windows. I was even able to live with her and our other two friends for a summer in her apartment downtown Savannah. We were there for each other through every heartbreak, let down, and rainy day.

After spending an incredible time in college together - countless road trips, bike rides, and walks around the city of Savannah and up/down the east coast, we both made our ways out West, and luckily our paths crossed again quickly where we lived together in the Bay Area and our adventures continued! We spent days creating art, hiking and snowboarding, talking about life, and going to see as much music as we could - all while enjoying the scenery of beautiful Northern California. Eventually Shal moved to Los Angeles, and I moved to Fort Collins, Colorado for a few years…

Fast forward a few years later, and we have switched! I am now living in Los Angeles while Shal just moved to Fort Collins literally last week! We have always believed that the stars (yes, as in up above!) have always kept us connected on a path where no matter where we are we are there with each other in spirit and soul – it’s that special feeling you have for those long time best friends in your life, you know no matter how many years pass by you will still laugh until your face hurts over something silly with them, you will be there when heartbreak hits for each other, and you will inspire each other to shine as bright as the stars above. That is true friendship, in my opinion.

JCJ: What’s your favorite JCJ design and why?

Shal: It’s hard to choose one.. but my favorite JCJ design would have to go to the bullet necklaces. I love the idea of using an industrial style casing representing destruction and adding something as organic as the handpicked stones that represent restoration and creation.

Her favorite JCJ design from The Ranch Collection, the lucky talisman turquoise bullet necklace.

Her favorite JCJ design from The Ranch Collection, the lucky talisman turquoise bullet necklace.

JCJ: When is your birthday, and what is your sign?

Shal: My birthday is 02.03.1984 and I am an Aquarius. Interestingly enough this is an air sign NOT a water sign, like many believe. Phew you have no idea how good it feels to clear that up.

JCJ: How old are you?

Shal: Just turned 32.

JCJ: Where do you live? What is one of your favorite things about where you live?

Shal: I just moved to Fort Collins, CO last Thursday.  The two things that drew me to Fort Collins were the people and of course the mountains. As they say, “The mountains are calling and I must go”. I’m excited to be exploring this new home.

JCJ: What is your favorite color and why?

Shal: My favorite colour is blue. Throughout my 32 years I’ve gone through different favorites but I always go back to blue. Blue is very calming to me. As a hopeless dreamer this color also represents my two favourite elements sky and water.

JCJ: How would you describe your style?

Shal: I have A.D.D. when it comes to my style. I dabble in everything. I’m a tom boy at heart so my everyday style is generally what is comfortable with a skater/surfer twist. Depending on my mood I’ll wear earth tones or something more loud such as layering very loud colours. I also love getting dressed up for night outs.  In terms of Jewelry my style is consistently organic, much like the JCJ line. I love trying new earrings and necklaces. Rings are a little harder with my line of work and bracelets don’t fit my ridiculously small wrists.

JCJ: What inspires you?

Shal: Art and Creativity inspire me. Music especially inspires me. I am wholeheartedly and completely driven by music.

My darling sister was Shal's photographer for the day - these two just make you melt instantly, right?? I can't handle the adorableness and the cheekbones!!

My darling sister was Shal's photographer for the day - these two just make you melt instantly, right?? I can't handle the adorableness and the cheekbones!!

JCJ: Who do you look up to and why?

Shal: I look up to anyone who I believe to be a good leader. Those leaders that have a true passion for unifying their community and knowing how to make tough calls for the greater good. As far as specific people that I look up to it’d be my parents. They’ve always supported me and always willing to allow me to grow, make mistakes, and learn on my own accord per my own beliefs. Not everyone gets that chance.

JCJ: What would you pick as your spirit animal?

Shal: Do vampires count? Actually I think my spirit animal, not to be confused with my favourite animal, is a cat. I’m that person thats like “pay attention to me but don’t pay attention to me because now I feel borderline vulnerable” They are also pretty independent which I strive to be.

JCJ: What is one thing you can’t live without?

Shal: Oh man, only one?? I’m pretty obsessed with my new trauma shears at the moment. The wilderness is also pretty far up on the list. In all seriousness can we please not destroy all this planet has to offer?

JCJ: Who is your favorite musician or band?

Shal: I’m a music whore. Ahem. I mean. I’m a mood listener. I can’t answer this question :) But I will give you a quote from ONE of my favourite musicians Dave Grohl “That’s one of the great things about music. You can sing a song to  85,000 people and they’ll sing it back for 85,000 different reasons"

JCJ: Whiskey or vodka?

Shal: Le Sigh. Whiskey was always my go to but thanks to my 20s I can’t stomach it very well anymore. I stick to vodka sodas.. The club soda keeps you hydrated ;)

JCJ: What is your favorite song?

Shal: The Sound of Silence by Simon and Garfunkel. I can listen to this song on repeat and it never gets old. The lyrics have so much power if you truly listen. Also if you haven’t heard Disturb’s new take on this song you should stop reading this interview and go listen. now.

JCJ: A little known fact about you?

Shal: I have super attainable and legit dreams of being an avenger. or maybe an astronaut. You know once they make a cure for claustrophobia.

Thanks again Shaleni for awesome day in the life takeover! Stay tuned for our next installment in March! :) XO

Birthstone Monthly Spotlight: February + Amethyst – The Stone of the Mind

Jennifer CervelliComment

February, the 2nd month of the year and the birth month for both Aquarius and Pisces has the radiant purple stone amethyst as it’s beloved gemstone. Amethysts contain the second most abundant mineral found in Earth’s crust – quartz. Quartz is often found lining the insides of geodes.

The amethyst takes on a lot of positive and healthy traits – it is know to help enable sincerity, peace of mind, and good health. It is a stone of protection, encourages self control, helps to overcome difficulty, and is also believed to help steady a restless mind and support mental and emotional well-being.

The amethyst has been given many nicknames through the centuries. It’s often called "The Stone of Mind" because of its ability to enhance and improve meditation, memory, and motivation. This gorgeous gemstone is a stone that helps charge spiritual meaning and deeper connection to the universe. It opens and activates the crown chakra.

The amethyst’s name is derived from the Greek word, amethystos, which roughly translates to “remedy against drunkenness" or "without drunkenness." For that reason, another popular nickname for the amethyst is "The Sobriety Stone." Many healing properties are associated with the amethyst, but its ability to cure withdrawal symptoms is among its most famous assets.

Amethysts are very sensitive to heat. When heated to 400 or 500 degrees Celsius, an amethyst’s color changes to a brownish-yellow or red. Under some circumstances, the stones can turn green when heated. Heat may even transform an amethyst into a naturally rare mineral called citrine. And even without heating, the violet color of an amethyst may fade over time, so be sure to be gentle with your amethyst jewelry!

Birthstone Monthly Spotlight: January + Garnet

Jennifer CervelliComment

Each month, JCJ will be posting some fun information about the birthstone of the month. First one of year is January!! Garnet is the birthstone for January as well as the stone that celebrates the 2nd anniversary of marriage.

Garnet is an intense, vivid, and deep red semi-precious stone that is believed to bring good health and peace to one’s home. It relates to the elemental astrological signs of Leo, Virgo, Capricorn, and Aquarius.

Garnet is most know for it’s blood red color but it is not widely known that the stone also comes in a variety of other colors such as pink, green, violet, yellow, and orange.

Garnet is the “stone of health”, as it extracts negative energy from the chakras and transforms that energy to a positive state. It aids in purification, cleansing, and elimination of that which is in disorder. It is a stone believed to help treat disorders of the spine and spinal fluid, bone, cellular structure and composition, heart, lungs, and blood. It has been used in the treatment to equilibrate sexual energies and to enhance the assimilation of iodine, calcium, magnesium, and Vitamins A, D, and E. It can help to both repair and prevent damage to RNA/DNA structures. All garnets will help to speed up any healing process.

Ancient wise men of medicine used to place garnets inside open wounds to stop bleeding and precipitate clotting. Ancient Indian and Persian warriors used to wear the stone as an amulet to ward off pestilence, plague and the evil eye.

Embracing 2016 - The New Year

Jennifer CervelliComment

Happy 2016, babes! I hope you all had a truly wonderful time ringing in the new year with your beloveds. I am embracing the winter time of inner reflection, clearing out of the old, and welcoming the new. The holidays are always a busy time for the jewelry industry so I always need to remind myself to take the time to unplug the computer, turn off the cell phone, and be completely present with myself and my loved ones to enjoy the special "off" days. I was able to spend a quick weekend in Colorado to visit family, and it was a beautiful weekend filled with snow, laughter, and Italian family cooking!

Beautiful snowy December days in Colorado! The snow always makes it feel more like Christmas for me being originally from the East Coast, but I must say that the view here in Los Angeles during winter is equally as beautiful - and has been almost as chilly!

As you can imagine, the jewelry that my friends and family ask me to create is always extra special, and I always feel the pressure for perfection even more so! My lovely sister in law bought my sister one of my favorites from the Pyrite & Pearls collection- the Golden Goddess Pyrite Necklace - and on Christmas day she sent me a gorgeous picture of her wearing her new jewelry, this is such a gift in itself to feel the joy a special piece of jewelry can give.

Ringing in the New Year with my LA friends singing and dancing along to The Dead & CO with John Mayer was a perfect way to close the chapter to 2015 and open my heart to 2016. I feel so much gratitude for all that 2015 holds, as well as the beauty and anticipation of the clean slate and fresh start of 2016. My intention for the new year is continued positive spiritual growth and creative inspiration. <3

Holiday Spotlight: The Emergi Collection- embracing the soulful peace of mind

Jennifer CervelliComment

'Emergi', to rise up, emerge, free oneself. Forged, hammered, and fabricated fine jewelry using conflict free, stunning gemstones and raw metal.

This collection was the first to be designed when JCJ was founded in 2007. The Emergi Collection is inspired by the gratitude the soul feels when you are able to feel true peace in your heart. These moments might be fleeting - but they are what drives us to keep going, to keep working hard, and to keep trying to make the best life we can for ourselves.

Each design is based on this feeling - whether XOs for love, family, and friendship- the crosses for personal spirituality- or the raw, organic metal designs for freedom of the spirit.

Each day is a journey, and the best we can do is to keep encouraging each other, keep smiling, and keep working towards making every moment the best it can be. This collection embodies that desire- I hope this holiday season, you take moments to yourself to reflect on cherishing these quiet, rare fleeting feelings of peace among the hustle and bustle and excitement of the holiday season!

<3 In love & light,

Jenny
